Here Comes The Groom

When people think about engagements and weddings, they often think about the bride: What does her ring look like? What is she wearing? What will her bridesmaids’ dresses look like?  At EVJ, we understand that the Groom is far more important than just “how did he pop the question?” - this is also a celebration for HIM! That’s right, Grooms, we’re spilling our top tips to help you feel prepared for the biggest day of your life and look like a GQ model doing it, too!

It’s all about…the bride.

Ok, we get it.  We just told you that it isn’t all about the bride but hear us out.  Chances are, your fiance has been dreaming about this day for a long time. Now that she’s snagged her prince charming, you can help make her wedding daydreams a reality.  Wedding planning can sometimes be overwhelming, so come through in the clutch and offer suggestions and support where needed.  Don’t be afraid to voice your opinions, too - is there something special you’d like to see?  Prefer a 10-piece band over a DJ? Is there a wedding tradition you could do without? What about a color or a theme?  Keep an open line of communication.  It is important in wedding planning… and in marriage!

As long as I got my suit and tie.

Let’s talk fashion for a sec.  In a recent poll on our Instagram stories, we learned that 80% of responders preferred the casual look of a wedding day suit over a more traditional tuxedo.  While the classic look of a tuxedo is always in style, some Grooms prefer the flexibility and options a suit can give you.  Think socks, vests, ties or bowties, or separates in your wedding tones.  The options are endless.  Regardless of what you choose, make sure that you and your fiance are on the same page and spend a day together trying on different options.  Not all styles of tuxedos or suits are the same, so you want to make sure that it is complementary to your overall wedding theme and your bridesmaids’ dresses. We recommend the Nordstrom suiting department, Suit Supply or your local Black Tux location as your go-to resources if you’re starting from scratch.

Lookin’ fresh and feelin’ fresh.

We can’t think of a better excuse to pamper yourself than your upcoming wedding day.  Have you always wanted to get a massage or get a professional manicure/pedicure?  Do you need a fresh haircut or thinking of a straight-razor shave? Now is the time to get in touch with your inner pampered Groom! Schedule those appointments and enjoy this time to yourself ahead of the big day.  We promise you won’t regret it and you’ll feel like a million bucks!

Last chance at Bromance.

You’re engaged and you’ve picked who you want to be standing by your side when you marry your best friend, but the work doesn’t stop there! Think about ways that you want to honor your best bros.  Maybe it’s a handwritten note to thank them for having your back, or a bottle of scotch with some classy glassware. We also love personalized gifts, and The Man Registry has options from flasks to money clips. They might not expect it, but they will appreciate the time you took to show how much you care about them.

Get the Party Started.

You may think that the wedding day is just about getting dressed and to the church on time, but who doesn’t like a little pregame?  Schedule a fun and relaxing day for you and your guys.  Play a round of golf, enjoy a big breakfast or lunch together, or do an activity that will help you work out your pre-wedding jitters.  Your team will appreciate that you have a plan in place and you’ll always remember the quality time you spent with them getting ready for the “big game”.  That said, do try to keep the drinking to a minimum. Maybe a celebratory shot together before the ceremony is ok, but maybe hold off on the drinking games! Trust us - we’ve seen it all and we’d like to save you the trouble. We promise there will be PLENTY of time to get your party on at the reception!
